After apparently focusing on an England starter at Euro 2024, Real Madrid have now allowed Liverpool to sign a defender valued at €60 million.
This summer, Real Madrid and Liverpool are both looking to sign a center-back. Nacho bid Los Blancos farewell after he left the team on a free transfer to join Al-Qadsiah, ending his 23-year tenure.
Conversely, the Reds find themselves in a similar situation after letting Joel Matip leave for nothing. Matip’s deal with Liverpool ended on June 30, and the team is looking for a straight successor.
Leny Yoro, a sensation in Lille, was one player David Ornstein said both teams were seriously chasing.
Super scout Juni Calafat of Real Madrid has called Yoro a generational potential, and the 18-year-old is already guaranteed a starting spot in Ligue 1.
Lille are prepared to let go of Yoro this summer, as the player’s contract expires in just one year.
Yoro won’t sign new contracts, thus now is the perfect window for Lille to increase their earnings. According to reports, the French team hopes to get €60 million from Yoro’s sale.
It was often believed that Yoro will sign a long-term contract with the Bernabeu this summer or become a free agent in the next 12 months.
Yoro has made it known that he wants to sign with the LaLiga and Champions League champions, and these are his top priorities.
Real Madrid, though, are unwilling to part with Lille’s €60 million asking price. Instead, they’re allegedly only prepared to spend up to €40 million because the player will be available for nothing in a year.
Real Madrid Front-Runners for England International
A recent report from The Sun claims that Real Madrid has opened the door for Liverpool to go for Yoro after focusing on Marc Guehi, the England starter.
Both mainland Europe and the Premier League have a great deal of interest in Guehi. However, The Sun emphasizes that Real Madrid are currently in front of the line for the Crystal Palace star.
If clubs present offers in the £50 million to £60 million area, Palace are allegedly ready to cash in on Guehi.
Guehi has arguably been England’s greatest player at Euro 2024, more than justifying that high fee.
Guehi not only played outstanding defense but also provided the crucial pass that allowed Jude Bellingham to score an incredible late equalizer against Slovakia.
The True Story Behind Guehi Interest
Of course, there are a few questions about Real Madrid’s purported interest in Guehi.
First of all, Guehi and Yoro are valued at roughly the same amount, so if Real Madrid are unwilling to pay for Yoro, it seems sense that Guehi would also be in the same predicament.
Therefore, this might just be Real Madrid announcing that they have other targets in mind to persuade Lille to drop their demands for Yoro.
Although Real Madrid has demonstrated time and time again that they are among the most astute players in the transfer market, Liverpool will undoubtedly hope that isn’t the case.
