According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool are still exploring options and are ‘tracking’ RB Leipzig centre-back Mohamed Simakan.
Speaking on Playback on Monday evening, Romano confirmed that the Reds are keeping their cards close to their chest during the summer transfer market.
Now that the international competitions are gone, the Reds should have a little more leeway to maneuver.
However, Liverpool will need to act fast to get bodies into Anfield before they depart, as time is running short before they embark on their tour of the United States.
Those who return to the AXA Training Centre after competing in either the Copa America or Euro 2024, will continue to support Arne Slot.
It is possible that Slot determines he has what he needs for the upcoming season as he evaluates the Liverpool team. The Reds, however, are still keeping their alternatives in the market open.
Liverpool Scout RB Leipzig’s Mohamed Simakan
It had appeared very certain at the close of the last campaign that Liverpool would sign a center-back this summer.
The Reds believed they had to strengthen their backline because Ibrahima Konate’s form and fitness were declining and Joel Matip was going.
However, despite Liverpool’s obvious interest in Leny Yoro, there hasn’t been any other evidence to imply that a defensive reinforcement is on the horizon.
Yoro is expected to sign with Real Madrid instead of Liverpool in any case, with the Reds’ interest being viewed as purely opportunistic.
If Liverpool is going to make a defensive acquisition, they will have to seek elsewhere because the 18-year-old is slipping away.
Fabrizio Romano on Mohamed Simakan
“What I can tell you is that people on the board of Liverpool have been tracking Mo Simakan and know him very well,”
Says Romano.
“They have been following the player and they believe he’s a very talented defender.
At the moment there are no concrete negotiations between the agents of Simakan and Liverpool or Liverpool and Leipzig, so that is the situation,” he adds. “But I can confirm he’s one of many center-backs they have been tracking.”
All About Mohamed Simakan
Simakan is not a very unknown player, so Liverpool’s interest in him won’t come as a huge surprise to anyone.
The Reds are great supporters of RB Leipzig as a commercial partner. This is demonstrated by deals for Konate, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Naby Keita made since 2018.
As far as Liverpool is concerned, any player who is doing well with the Red Bull team is someone to keep an eye on.
Simakan certainly has the appearance of a standard Liverpool signing. With nearly 200 appearances under his belt and the ability to play both center defense and right back, this 24-year-old checks several boxes.
Journalist Philipp Hinze claims that the defender might also be had for about £38 million.
Simakan, a France U21 international, had his breakthrough at Strasbourg before moving to Leipzig in 2021. After then, he established himself as a regular for the Germans, appearing 120 times over three seasons.
