Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders has confirmed that goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher will start in the clash against Fulham tonight.
After the recent exciting 2-0 victory over Arsenal on Sunday, the Merseysiders will be hoping to extend their 6 game unbeaten run tonight. The PL table toppers will be facing Fulham at Craven Cottage in the 1st leg of the Semi-final of Carabao Cup.
The Reds have been in excellent form this season so far, losing only 3 games across all competitions. Moreover, their passion and resilience has been enough to produce great results.
The Anfield giants have only lost 1 match of the last 5 clashes, winning 2 and drawing 2. So, it is safe to say that LFC will have the upper-hand going into the match.
Caoimhin Kelleher to start against Fulham
Prior to the match, on Tuesday Pep Lijnders spoke to liverpoolfc.com, confirming that the Irish goalkeeper will be starting ahead of Alisson.
“Caoimh is our No.1 for this competition, so he will start tomorrow.”
Lijnders said.
This selection makes sense considering the fact that he has started in every single Carabao Cup game this season. Even though he has not kept a single clean sheet, he has only conceded 3 goals.
The 25-year-old has also been crucial for the matches Alisson was out due to injury. So far in this season, Kelleher has kept 2 clean sheets in 10 games across all competitions conceding 13 goals.
Furthermore, the club has to ensure that he gets enough playtime to keep him in shape as the second-choice goalkeeper. He has proven his whenever he has made an appearance while filling in for Alisson in goal.
The match against Fulham will not be an easy one but Jurgen Klopp has the faith that Caoimhin will step up and produce world-class display to keep Liverpool in the competition.
An ardent football fan and a proud Red. I take immense pleasure in analyzing the intricacies of the game.
