Liverpool’s transfer decisions from the previous summer window are coming under scrutiny, with midfielder Moises Caicedo at the centre of the debate.
The club faced criticism for not securing the signature of Jude Bellingham, who ultimately joined Real Madrid. However, Liverpool’s last-minute pursuit of Caicedo, who ultimately chose Chelsea, is now being viewed as a potential misstep.
Despite a strong interest from Liverpool and Arsenal, the Ecuadorian midfielder opted for Stamford Bridge over Anfield or the Emirates.
However, Caicedo’s transition to Chelsea has not been as seamless as expected, and the club’s struggles this season have raised questions about his decision.
Craig Burley believes Moises Caicedo made a mistake in choosing Chelsea over Liverpool
Craig Burley, former Chelsea midfielder turned pundit, voiced his opinion on the matter during an ESPN discussion.
Burley expressed the belief that Caicedo might have made the wrong move, stating,
“At Brighton, he looked like a £100 million player. He was a right player at Brighton, he was. Arsenal wanted him, Chelsea, Liverpool wanted him. Chelsea got him. He should’ve gone to Liverpool or Arsenal, not Chelsea. That’s a different story. He’s made the wrong move at this moment in time, no sign of that changing.”
Said Craig.
Burley’s comments highlight the contrasting fortunes of Liverpool and Chelsea this season. While Liverpool are actively contending for the Premier League title, Chelsea finds themselves in mid-table struggles.
The narrative surrounding Caicedo’s choice has shifted, leaving many to ponder if the talented midfielder missed out on a more promising opportunity with Liverpool or Arsenal.
