Dominik Szoboszlai stayed true to form during the international break and may give Liverpool a potential Robertson solution.
There is a similarity in the way the player operates for club and country. He passes the same, runs the same, and even hits the ball the same. But there is a bit of difference in the way Szoboszlai plays for Hungary.
Of course, he is the captain of Hungary and is the main man. Moreover, the quality of the Hungarian national team is incomparable to the level of world-class talent Liverpool possess.
That’s the reason Szoboszlai has to cover more ground and dictate more play in Hungary.
Szoboszlai could provide Liverpool with a Robertson back-up
On Saturday night, he faced a tough test, facing a tough Serbian side at home. As expected, he thrived in that environment. And he delivered key contributions that helped Hungary triumph in the end.
He collided with the referee as Hungary surged forward in the 67th minute. However, he was everywhere on the pitch and didn’t just cover the midfield.
Also so far, Andy Robertson has struggled in defensive transitions this season.
Moreover, with Trent inverting to midfield, he has been exposed more. However, Szoboszlai could offer a solution based on his performance for Hungary on Saturday night.
He often popped up on the left side of midfield where he diligently covered for Hungary’s left wing-back, Milos Kerkez. Szoboszlai ensured that the left flank wasn’t exposed when he joined the attack.
However this season, Szoboszlai has been deployed in the right. But Klopp did deploy him on the left in his first-ever game for the Reds in pre-season.
He switched across there when Curtis Jones was suspended for Brighton too.
But based on his performance against Serbia, he could play alongside Robertson. It could be an interesting experiment and could provide a solution to Liverpool’s vulnerabilities.
