Egypt U-23s manager Rogerio Micale has publicly admitted that he would select Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah for next summer’s Paris Olympic Games.
Mohamed Salah could be in a pressure situation next season as Egypt wants their main man to be in the team. The situation could escalate further because both club and country would try and get him in the team.
The ‘Egyptian King’ will already miss quite a few games in the coming January and February. This is because the Merseysiders’ star forward will be leading his nation in the latest edition of the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
Meanwhile, the Reds’ winger could also miss the start of next season as the 2024 Summer Olympics will commence from 26 July to 11 August.
Liverpool to block Mohamed Salah call-up from Egypt?
While talking to Ahram Online about the Salah situation, Egypt coach Rogerio Micale said,
“I am doing my best to choose the young players who will participate in the upcoming Olympics.
We still have one year to think of the matter and evaluate the situation, but for sure we welcome Salah…
Salah is as significant as Neymar in Brazil.”
Salah has always been a crucial player for the Reds. Since joining the club he has achieved almost everything at the club level with the team and as an individual. He joined the Anfield giants back in July of 2017 from Roma for just €42M.
And since then he won UCL, PL, EFL, English FA Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, and many more on the club level. The Egyptian has also won the Player of The Year award, the Puskas award, the Footballer of The Year award, the PL Golden Boot award, and several others on an individual level.
Liverpool had a bad last season as per their standards. Salah still managed to score 30 goals while assisting 16 in 51 appearances across all competitions. So it is already evident how much of an impactful player he is (Stats via Transfermarkt).
In the past, the 31-year-old wanted to represent his nation in the delayed Tokyo Olympic Games in 2021. But the Merseysiders exercised the right to block the player from playing non-FIFA-sanctioned international tournaments.
With new rumours of the Egyptian leaving the club emerging more frequently, Liverpool are now in a very anxious situation. But if the call-up from Egypt comes, the club has every right to block that and make Salah stay at the club.
