Liverpool Told to Up Their Bid to £42.5m for Star Midfielder – Will They Seal the Deal?

Liverpool pursuit of the Atalanta midfielder Ederson has hit a snag. After submitting an initial bid of £38m, the Reds have been informed that they need to dig deeper into their pockets.

According to today’s Corriere Dello Sport, Atalanta have set a hefty price tag for their Brazilian playbreaker. The minimum they are open to accept is £42.5m (50 million euros).

Liverpool’s new manager Arne Slot is very eager to add Ederson to his squad. The 24-year-old’s performance against Liverpool at the Europa League quarter-final last season has left a lasting impression on Liverpool.

Ederson literally dominated Liverpool and stifled Alexis Mac Allister. His performance showed the exact defensive skill Liverpool’s midfield needs right now.

In England, the race for Ederson is heating up with Arsenal and Newcastle United in the mix. However, Liverpool made the first move, only to be told that their offer needed an upgrade.

Atalanta president Antonio Percassi and head coach Gian Piero Gasperini are holding firm on Ederson’s hefty price tag, especially with Teun Koopmeiners likely heading to Juventus this summer.

Ederson – A Must Signing for Liverpool

Ederson scored six goals this season. Also, he was a defensive linchpin for Atalanta last season. His ability to break up play and contribute offensively makes him a hot commodity.

He has no shortage of admirers. Even in the January transfer window, significant offers were received for him, but Atalanta held on.

Liverpool are in a dire need for a defensive midfielder. Wataru Endo has a commendable debut season, but his performance lacks consistency and at the age of 31, he is not a long-term solution.

Ederson with a blend of youth and experience can be a perfect fit for Liverpool. The signings of Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch, and Dominik Szoboszlai last summer were the steps in the right direction. And, now Ederson can be the missing piece to their midfield puzzle.

Should Liverpool cough up the extra £4.5m? Considering Ederson’s track record and impact, it might be a no-brainer. Missing out on him will mean watching a rival club strengthen their midfield. while Liverpool ponder upon what could have been.
