Liverpool Stars Face Euro 2024 Heartbreak: Southgate Set To Deliver Crushing Blow!
Two Liverpool players may suffer heartbreak as Gareth Southgate prepares to trim his England squad for Euro 2024. From a provisional squad of 33 players, the Three Lions boss must shave off seven names to hit the 26-player limit.
Teetering on the edge are two Liverpool players Jarell Quansah and Curtis Jones. Their inclusion in the provisional squad is remarkable given their lack of senior caps.
Despite very low senior caps Southgate’s nod to Quansah and Jones, alongside Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton, signifies his knack for spotting and nurturing young talents.
Speaking to englandfootball.com, Southgate praised the Reds duo hinting that despite having potential their Euro 2024 dreams might be dashed as of now. Southgate stated:
“I’ve said to these boys that we’re only taking 26. They might be ready now but it might be that this is brilliant experience for them for the future.
I can’t give anybody any guarantees because we don’t quite know all the other injury situations.”
Liverpool Suffer Heartbreak from Southgate
Their possible exclusion may sting but their inclusion in the provisional squad shows that they are on Southgate’s radar for future call-ups.
Southgate’s tactful approach to delivering bad news is a breath of fresh air compared to the brusque methods of some other international coaches.
Liverpool fans might be scratching their heads over the omission of Harvey Elliott. His stellar end-of-season form seemed to earn him a call-up to the national team.
If Jones and Quansah also miss out on the final squad on June 8, it will be a blow to the Merseysiders. A summer break may also work in their favour as they can rest and prepare for Liverpool’s 2024/25 campaign.
