Liverpool targeted Danish midfielder Jesper Lindstrom this summer, but he rejected the Reds and now his lack of play time at Napoli is concerning.
The Merseysiders had an extensive midfield rebuild this summer with four new signings. Although they were not able to secure most of their desired targets, the club signed quite a few promising players.
One of the targets of the Reds were Danish midfielder Jesper Lindstrom who is reportedly a Liverpool fan since childhood. But he rejected the opportunity to play at the club and joined Napoli instead. While speaking about his choice he said,
“Liverpool were also after me. I support Liverpool and it would’ve been a great opportunity.
But how many minutes would I have been able to play? Would it have been smart to go to Liverpool?”
Then he spoke about why he chose Napoli over other clubs. He stated,
“It’s one of the best clubs in the world. And they told me I’ll play and get many opportunities.”
Did Jesper Lindstrom make a mistake choosing Napoli over Liverpool?
Recently Tuttonapoli published an article titled “Remember what Lindstrom said about Liverpool? What if he’s regretting it now?”
So far in this season, the 23-year-old has made 7 appearances across Serie A and UCL with just one start.
He has been able to accumulate only 149 minutes and is yet to register any goal contribution (stats via Transfermarkt).
The Italian media outlet thinks that the Dane could have played more minutes if he joined LFC. This is because Klopp chooses to rotate his squad quite often, giving every player equal opportunities to play.
However, Lindstrom not joining the Anfield side has definitely not made the fans regret it. Possibly the most effective signing of the summer for the Reds has been Dominik Szoboszlai.
The Hungarian skipper has impressed everyone with his performances and outstanding character and will continue to grow at the club.
An ardent football fan and a proud Red. I take immense pleasure in analyzing the intricacies of the game.
