Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that injured Diogo Jota could return to action on Boxing Day after an intense training session.
The Reds have been surfing in good form this season across all competitions. Despite the back-to-back draws in the PL, they are currently 2nd in the points table with 39 points after 18 games.
The attacking force of the Merseyside giants has been pretty effective in the PL this season until matchday 16, scoring 36 goals. But goals have dried up for the last two matches as the team managed to put forward only one plan.
There are several reasons behind this phenomenon, but one of the main reasons can be listed as injuries of key players. However, a recent update has shared some positive news for this holiday season.
Klopp confirms Diogo Jota is back at Liverpool training
While speaking to the press, Jurgen Klopp stated that Diogo Jota has returned to training. He said,
“I don’t want to rule out anybody now. We will see. He didn’t train with the team yet and we have only one proper session, so it would be a surprise – but maybe I will be surprised and all fine.
I don’t know. I saw him [on Friday]; he didn’t train with the team but the session I saw was really intense, but I didn’t ask yet who will be available. The medical department will tell me and then I will know more.”
Jota last played in the PL clash against Manchester City, where he picked up a muscle injury. Before that, he had scored 8 goals across all competitions (stats via Transfermarkt).
The Portuguese international returning in action is great news because the combined force of Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo has only scored 9 goals in PL since he got injured.
The 27-year-old’s return will benefit Klopp and Co. in pursuing the Premier League title this season.
An ardent football fan and a proud Red. I take immense pleasure in analyzing the intricacies of the game.
