Liverpool were keen on getting the Moroccan midfielder, Sofyan Amrabat this summer but the player eventually made his move to Manchester United.
Many would feel that the Reds missed out on the Fiorentina midfielder. Especially, if the target joins your rivals instead of you, the fans would feel embarrassed.
However, as we learn more, it feels like the Reds dodged a bullet by not going all in for Amrabat. As per The Athletic, Man Utd have agreed on a loan deal, with an option to buy.
“United eventually struck a deal on Friday afternoon (deadline day) which largely aligned with Fiorentina’s initial demands of a €10million loan fee and an overall €35million package, although United’s negotiations team secured a €20million option to buy rather than an obligation to buy.
Amrabat’s medical was completed, although not before United detected a minor back injury. The 27-year-old struggled with his back during Morocco’s World Cup campaign, revealing to The Athletic earlier this year that he received pain-killing injections in order to play in the round of 16 defeat of Spain.”
This would have been widely criticized by the supporters if the player were to join the Anfield club.
The fact that the Manchester club went ahead with the transfer even though a back injury was spotted during the medical.
This just shows how desperate the club and Ten Haag were to get a signing done before the transfer window closed.
Liverpool dodged a bullet by not signing Sofyan Amrabat
Moreover, the Merseysiders didn’t have a perfect summer themselves. They missed out on Caicedo and Lavia, but they had a set of clear targets and didn’t jump onto any player that was available.
The 4 signings that the Reds made have been brilliant with an equal mix of experience and youth in them. They had to leave it late to secure the signing of Gravenberch. The Dutchman arrived from Bayern and was one of the earliest targets for Klopp.
Meanwhile, United’s new midfield signing, Mason Mount has been far from impressive and has been injured. His injury would rule him out until next month which could see him miss 4-6 games.
Although it’s unfortunate to suffer an injury for his new club, his time so far at Utd hasn’t been great.
However, it’s very early stages into the new season but the Reds look much more solid and comfortable than Utd.
