Liverpool FC are interested in two of Brighton & Hove Albion’s star midfielders, Alexis Mac Allister and Moises Caicedo.
Liverpool are in talks with Brighton to sign Mac Allister for a discounted price of £40 million if the deal includes Liverpool’s backup goalkeeper, Caoimhin Kelleher.
The Reds faces tough competition for Caicedo
Liverpool have also confirmed interest in Caicedo, but competition from Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester City makes it difficult for Liverpool to secure his signature.
Brighton would prefer to sell just Mac Allister this summer and keep all of their other coveted stars. However, if a bid worth more than £80m arrives for Caicedo, then Brighton chiefs will have to consider a sale.
Liverpool’s interest in both Mac Allister and Caicedo is due to their impressive performances in the Premier League. However, signing both midfielders would require significant investment, leaving little room for strengthening other positions such as center-back.
Could Liverpool secure a double deal for Mac Allister and Caicedo?
Liverpool’s interest in Mac Allister could provide Brighton with the opportunity to sign Liverpool’s goalkeeper, Kelleher.
The Irishman has been Liverpool’s backup option for the last three seasons and is allegedly angling for a move away from Anfield this summer to secure more regular playing time. Liverpool could use Brighton’s interest in Kelleher to sign Mac Allister at a discounted price.
The South American midfielder has directly contributed to 13 goals this term for the Seagulls. At the FIFA World Cup, he netted a goal in the group stages vs Poland. Also, he set up Argentina’s second goal in the final vs France.
Alexis Mac Allister, who was instrumental in Argentina’s World Cup victory in November and Brighton’s push for European qualification, is likely to leave Brighton this summer, despite signing a new contract in October that secured him until 2025.
Brighton values Mac Allister at £60-70m but would accept £40m if they get Kelleher in return. Moises Caicedo, who tried to leave Brighton in January amid offers from Arsenal and Chelsea, is also a target for Liverpool.
Liverpool could sign Mac Allister and Caicedo for a combined fee of £120 million, but this would leave them unable to sign defensive recruits.
With competition from other top clubs, it remains to be seen if Liverpool can secure both signings. However, it is likely that Moises Caicedo will be representing a top Champions League club in the next few seasons, given his impressive performances for Brighton.
