The Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp praises his star defender Virgil Van Dijk for his recovery from his ‘unlucky’ injury. Last October during the Merseyside derby at Goodison Park. Jordan Pickford and Virgil van Dijk collided against each other which eventually resulted in a serious injury to van Dijk.

Klopp became furious as no action was taken against Pickford because of an offside flag. On the other side, Virgil van Dijk suffered a severe knee injury for which he underwent surgery and was ruled out for the rest of the season.

Liverpool defensive woes started from this moment as 16 different players played as defenders for the Reds last season due to injuries.

Klopp called the injury of van Dijk to be unlucky

In the pre-match press conference ahead of the Merseyside derby, Jurgen Klopp praised Liverpool’s star defender Virgil van Dijk for his recovery. Klopp Said

The situation was unlucky, I haven’t seen it happen in another game since.

Virg is very experienced. He just has to be completely free of all things in his mind because of one issue in the past.

He’s come back brilliant. People are quick if things are not exactly like they were. Those judgements make no sense.

He’s had time. Three games in a week, he looked fine but we gave him a break. Not sure that’s needed now for next games but we think about it from time to time.

Everybody came through well from Saturday, but the boys (who were out) are getting closer. Joe is not too far from team training, and Naby . Bobby needs another week to do more football stuff.

The Dutch skipper has 13 Premier League appearances to his name this season and he also scored a goal against Southhampton last weekend. He is currently in second place for most passes this season in the Premier League with 994 passes. Moreover, the 30-year-old is performing exceptionally once again for the Reds and Klopp need him in the backline week in and out.
