The Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk, who plays at the heart of the defensive line for the Reds will continue his journey with the former Premier League champions in the coming years.
On signing a new long-term contract with the Reds van Dijk said
“Amazing. It is something to be very proud of, that I am very proud of, that my wife and my kids are very proud of and obviously my agency.”
“All the hard work we’ve put in so far continues and I am looking forward to what the future brings together with Liverpool. I’m delighted, very happy and proud.”
Van Dijk joined Liverpool way back in January of 2018 from Southampton. Since his arrival at the club, the 30-year-old has made 130 appearances and contributed 13 goals so far. Thus assisting the club in securing a Premier League title, one Champions League trophy, one UEFA Super Cup and one FIFA Club World Cup.
When asked about Pre-Season and his match fitness, van Dijk said
“I feel good. Obviously [they were] friendlies, you get your match fitness up, get into repetitions of doing things again and again.”
“I feel like I am ready for the weekend, so we’ll see what the manager decides. It is going to be a totally different atmosphere and mindset for me personally as well. It is something we fight for, for the points, and hopefully we can get a positive result out of it.”
The Netherlands captain is currently focusing on starting the new campaign with the Reds from tomorrow. Van Dijk will be hoping to continue his good form as Liverpool gets ready for a trip to Carrow Road to face Norwich City in order to kick off their 2021-22 Premier League campaign.
