Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was baffled to see Mohamed Salah seventh on the Ballon d’Or list. The voting seemed to be terrible since the Liverpool forward has had an excellent form. There was definitely an expectation that Mohamed Salah would appear higher up the list. The Mirror page said so.

While going into Monday’s program, most of us would have expected to see Salah at least in the top 5. He is one of the best players in the world right now because of his brilliant performances. He has had the praises of captains, teammates, managers and journalists. This is one of the reasons why Liverpool want to keep Salah.

Meanwhile, Lionel Messi won the Ballon d’Or for the seventh time. This is the highest record set by any player. Many people have criticized this decision keeping Bayern Munich star Robert Lewandowski and the UEFA Champions League & Euro 2020 winner Jorginho in mind.

Many wanted Robert Lewandowski to get the award as even last year’s ceremony got cancelled. However, this did not happen. Mohamed Salah was seventh in voting. Alongside him were Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kante and Cristiano Ronaldo. They were all higher than him on the list.

Kevin De Bruyne, Kylian Mbappe and Gianluigi Donnarumma summed up the top 10. It is a little fishy to see how Mohamed Salah was avoided despite his fabulous form in the current year.

Klopp had his say on Salah being 7th in the Ballon d’Or ranks

Jurgen Klopp seemed unhappy with the result. This is what he said while addressing the press ahead of the Everton match:

Yeah I was surprised about his position to be honest. But it is not in my hands. I assume so see votes somewhere. I do not know if it is a journalist vote, do not ask me. It is your fault.

If you think that he should be higher up the list, then you should convince your colleagues. I am not 100 percent sure. You can always give it to Lionel Messi for what he has done. But if you are not giving it to Robert Lewandowski this time, it is tricky. Yes, Salah should have been higher up.

Liverpool faces Everton next in the Merseyside Derby away at Goodison Park. It will be interesting to see how former Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez prepares his Everton side for Liverpool’s visit.
