Dean Jones has tipped Liverpool to finalize a deal for Romeo Lavia if Fabinho leaves for Saudi Arabia after the Reds are expected to receive a bid of £40m for the Brazil international.
As per recent reports, the Brazilian is tipped to join the Saudi Pro League club after the Reds received a bid of £40m. Hence, should the deal go ahead, Liverpool need to replace the 29-year-old
Speaking on The Done Deal Show, Jones suggested a move for Lavia could be on the cards if Fabinho goes.
The reports say that Lavia is already in talks with the Anfield club for a potential move. Moreover, he is seen by Klopp as the club’s next big signing.
Lavia to replace Fabinho at Liverpool?
Jones went on to give his verdict about the whole transfer saga.
“It will be interesting to see how this weighs up. It’s an extra £50m to put into the transfer market, it would make the Lavia deal pretty much a no brainer, that deal should be around £40m, so it is basically a like-for-like for Fabinho that is great.
Then you have another £10m to put into a defender and I imagine that’s what Liverpool would then be looking at doing.”
The Reds would have to gamble on a player like Lavia who has no European experience whatsoever. But the promise that the Belgian brings to the table is appreciable.
At 19 years of age, he was a stand-out player for the Saints last season. Despite going down to the Championship with Southampton, he has been one of the hottest prospects in England at the moment.
However, replacing Fabinho would be a hard ask. The Brazilian has arguably been one of the best in the business for the Reds in recent years.
Meanwhile, Jones says that this is a no-brainer but Klopp needs to think twice before gambling on the prospect.
