Liverpool have piled up pressure on the third-place Newcastle United after they won on Monday night, moving just one point within their reach.
Klopp’s side moved past relegation-threatened Leicester City with ease. Curtis Jones scored twice and Trent scored a beauty as the Reds won in a 3-0 victory.
However, the Reds are still in 5th place but they are just one point away from 3rd place Newcastle. Besides, Liverpool have played one game more than the two teams above them.
Liverpool face Aston Villa and the already relegated Southampton in their final two games. With a possible 6 points to win, they would heavily rely on results elsewhere for a fourth-place or even a third-place finish. This has surely piled pressure on Newcastle and Manchester United.
The Magpies, however, face Brighton, who battered Arsenal last weekend. Man Utd on the other hand, have a relatively easier draw in Bournemouth.
Neville thinks Liverpool are putting Newcastle under real pressure
Speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, Neville noticed a passionate fist pump from the Liverpool boss and believes it is symbolic.
“Jurgen Klopp’s little fist pump at the end is something that if you are a Newcastle player or a Manchester United player, I think he’s definitely sending you a message that he’s coming for you.
I think Liverpool will definitely win their last two games and if you are a Newcastle player or a Manchester United player you have to make sure you do your job otherwise you’ll end up out of the top four.“
While Neville thinks Liverpool are going to win their final two games of the season, it is still in Newcastle’s hands.
Two wins from three will be enough to confirm a top-four finish. Moreover, there is also the prospect of Man United dropping points.
Even though Man Utd seem less impressive, people have been talking about Newcastle dropping out of the top 4 spot.
But all Newcastle can do is focus on themselves, starting on Thursday night against Brighton. By no means is it going to be an easy game, but a victory would be of high importance.
As Neville says, Newcastle needs to do their job. It is unlikely that they are going to get any favours. They simply need to win at least two of the three games against Brighton, Leicester, and Chelsea.
