Liverpool manager Arne Slot has confirmed that the club is actively working on summer transfers. He is addressing concerns over their relatively quiet activity in recent windows.
Since taking over at Anfield, Slot has overseen only two signings: Federico Chiesa from Juventus and goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, who will join in the summer. Despite this, the Reds find themselves at the top of the Premier League and excelling in other competitions.
Liverpool’s Transfer Strategy
Speaking to former England striker Gary Lineker in an interview for Football Focus, Slot reassured fans about the club’s ambitions in the transfer market. Slot said,
“Liverpool should always be competing for a league title, we should always be competing for the Champions League. I’m hoping I will be able to keep the club at that level.”
While many expected more activity in the winter window, Slot explained why the club opted against major signings mid-season.
“I know people sometimes question this because they haven’t seen us doing a lot in the transfer market in the summer and now in the winter as well.
There’s a reason for that – because we’re happy with the squad. But I do know in the background we are definitely working on strengthening in the summer.”
Squad Performance and Title Race
Liverpool’s performances under Slot have exceeded expectations. The Reds are currently six points clear at the top of the Premier League with a game in hand, having won 16 of their 22 league matches and scored 54 goals.
In the Champions League, they have maintained a perfect record, winning all seven of their group-stage matches. The team is also in contention for domestic silverware, with a League Cup semi-final clash against Tottenham and an FA Cup fourth-round tie against Plymouth Argyle.
While Liverpool’s form remains strong, questions linger over the future of key players. Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold are all in the final months of their contracts.
Slot praised Van Dijk’s impact:
“From the first day I was like ‘wow, this is definitely another level that I’m used to’. But people in England were used to this.”
As Liverpool navigate the title race, fans can expect significant movement in the summer window to ensure continued success at Anfield.
