Liverpool’s January transfer window may be understated, but the club’s focus on long-term development continues to make headlines. Stefan Bajcetic was once hailed as the Reds’ midfield prodigy. Now he is reportedly close to securing a loan move to La Liga outfit Las Palmas.

This follows a turbulent stint at Red Bull Salzburg that saw the Spaniard’s progress hampered by injury and limited game time. Under manager Arne Slot, Liverpool’s transfer activity has been measured but calculated.

While their Premier League rivals have splashed cash on overhauls, the Merseysiders have taken a more methodical approach. The summer signings of Federico Chiesa and Giorgi Mamardashvili have proven their worth. Even as the latter remains on loan at Valencia.

Yet, with Salah, Alexander-Arnold, and van Dijk all in contract talks, the club’s priorities are clear: securing the present while planning for the future. Liverpool’s need for a defensive midfielder is no secret.

The failed pursuit of Martin Zubimendi last summer left a gap that remains unfilled. Transfer expert Ben Jacobs recently noted that addressing the no.6 position is a priority for the Reds. Though Stefan Bajcetic could offer a solution.

The 20-year-old, ranked among FourFourTwo’s top teenagers last season, has shown flashes of brilliance but now requires consistent playing time to rediscover his form.

Las Palmas: The perfect opportunity for Bajcetic?

According to Spanish outlet Atlantico Hoy, Bajcetic’s impending move to Las Palmas is nearing completion after “quick negotiations.” A stint in the Canary Islands could mirror the development trajectory of Pedri, who flourished with the same club before moving to Barcelona. For Bajcetic, this represents a chance to reboot his career in a technical league that aligns with his skill set.

While Salzburg’s poor Champions League campaign and Pep Lijnders’ short-lived tenure didn’t help Bajcetic’s growth, the La Liga loan could offer redemption. Worth €8 million on Transfermarkt, the midfielder has the potential to evolve into a versatile no.6 or no.8 for Liverpool.

As the Reds prepare for their Champions League clash with PSV, fans eagerly await the official confirmation of Bajcetic’s next step in his journey.
