Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes has been presented the opportunity to sign Jamie Gittens who is reportedly waiting on the club.

Richard Hughes has faced a challenging start as Liverpool’s sporting director.

The summer was meant to bring a marquee signing in Martin Zubimendi, but after an agreement between the club and the player, he rejected the Reds at the last minute and chose to remain at Real Sociedad.

The signing of Federico Chiesa has not gone according to plan either, as the Italian has struggled for playing time, mainly due to his challenges with injuries and lack of fitness.

While goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili was also signed, he will not be available for the Reds until the end of the season, as is the agreement with Valencia CF.

There are a lot of eyes on Hughes, as the fans want to see the club making signings, especially with the possibility of a good number of players leaving once the season ends.

However, there is a deal for a key player that may be quite easy for the Reds to make.

Richard Hughes has a huge chance signing of Jamie Gittens for Liverpool

Richard Hughes has a great chance of signing a very exciting Borussia Dortmund talent Jamie Gittens and Liverpool might have the most direct route to securing his services.

Jamie Gittens is generating a lot of buzz this season, and rightly so. The young forward has been excelling at Dortmund, and has been involved in 11 goals and 3 assists this season across the Bundesliga and UEFA Champions League.

His stats do not fully capture the impact of the 20-year-old, as Gittens has not always been a regular starter for the German club.

In his total tally of minutes in the Bundesliga, he stands as 14.2 full 90-minutes. He has registered seven goals and three assists in the Bundesliga this season, that is an average of a goal contribution every 1.43 games.

This is impressive for a player doing all this in a side that is performing poorly, and at the age of 20 [he’s got a lot of time to improve].

Borussia Dortmund may be forced to sell this summer, particularly if they fail to qualify for the Champions League. They currently sit in 11th place, so that outcome is genuinely possible.

Bayern Munich are interested in the winger given his quality, but the club would prefer to move him abroad than sell to their rivals.

Chelsea and Manchester United are also eyeing him, though both could miss out on Champions League football next season.

If Dortmund decide to sell, Gittens will be waiting for a Liverpool offer, as they are the team most likely to persuade both the player and the club.

Gittens, will no doubt be a great addition to Slot’s team, and Richard Hughes could redeem the fans belief in him and the club’s desire to sign the best players, if a deal for the winger comes to fruition.
