Fabrizio Romano: Liverpool now want to sign player who scored against them in December 2022

Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Florian Neuhaus, who will soon enter the final year of his contract.

Neuhaus – Another midfielder on the radar of Liverpool

As Gladbach is in a vulnerable position when it comes to the selling value of Neuhaus, the Reds could benefit from the situation.

The player’s representatives are currently exploring his options ahead of the summer window, with Liverpool being one of several clubs interested in the German midfielder, according to 90min.

Other Premier League clubs such as Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal, and Newcastle are also said to have scouted Neuhaus, along with teams from La Liga and Serie A.

Hailed as an ‘outstanding’ player by his teammate Marcus Thuram, the 26-year-old could be an excellent addition to Jurgen Klopp’s squad.

Despite having suffered partial damage to his cruciate ligament, Neuhaus has demonstrated his quality in previous seasons.

Having been linked to Liverpool in 2021, Emile Heskey drew comparisons between Neuhaus and former Liverpool fan-favorite Philippe Coutinho.

“Someone who can get in those pockets, travel with the ball and start committing defenders to come out of those spaces which they can exploit.”

said Heskey.

Liverpool have previously withdrawn from the race to sign Jude Bellingham, and as a result, they desperately need to identify alternative targets in the midfield. Neuhaus is a viable option that the Reds could consider.

Arsenal are also interested in Neuhaus along with the Reds’ target Declan Rice and Moises Caicedo.

What the Stats say?

The German midfielder has progressed through the youth ranks at Gladbach and has made over 165 appearances for the first team, scoring 22 goals.

He missed a number of games this season with a knee problem but has recently returned to the starting line-up.

Neuhaus is a versatile midfielder who can play in a double pivot or as a number ten.

He is an excellent passer with a range of short, sharp, and long passes, and averages 4.53 passes into the final third and 5.54 progressive passes per 90 in the Bundesliga.

The midfielder often has decent positioning and movement in defensive shape to help him intercept and tackle his opponent; he averages 3.51 tackles and interceptions per 90 this season. Yet the midfielder is also not very mobile and can sometimes be bypassed when in defensive transition.

He has good close control and can create passing angles. Neuhaus also has the ability to dribble successfully and averages 1.22 successful dribbles per 90 this season.

He is decent in defense with good positioning and movement but can be bypassed in defensive transition due to his lack of mobility.

Although Monchengladbach is keen to keep Neuhaus at the club, his representatives are working to assess his options and determine which clubs would be keen to sign him.

Liverpool, among others, are firm admirers of the player, and a summer move could be on the cards.
