Liverpool’s young talent, Fabio Carvalho, is joining RB Leipzig on a season-long loan, according to reports.

Carvalho, who arrived at Anfield from Fulham last summer for a potential fee of £7.7 million, struggled to secure regular playing time during his debut season with Liverpool.

Carvalho’s season at Anfield

Although he scored three goals in 21 appearances, the 20-year-old found himself on the fringes of the squad, especially in the latter half of the campaign, as he failed to establish a consistent starting role in midfield or on the left flank.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp commended Carvalho’s attitude during his time on the sidelines but did not deny the possibility of the youngster going out on loan to gain more playing minutes in the upcoming 2023-24 season.

Klopp stated that no decision had been made yet, but he praised Carvalho’s exceptional performances in training, indicating that discussions between the player and the club were imminent.

Why Leipzig?

RB Leipzig have emerged as a likely destination for Carvalho’s loan move, with Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano reporting that the final details of the deal are being worked out. However, it’s worth noting that the current agreement does not include a buy option clause.

Carvalho has attracted interest from several other clubs, including West Ham, Brentford, and Burnley, but he expressed a preference for a move to Germany.

Leipzig’s involvement in the Champions League and their track record of nurturing young talents make them an attractive choice for the ambitious forward.

Liverpool sees a future in Fabio Carvalho

Liverpool have been steadfast in their decision to only consider loan proposals for Carvalho, viewing him as a promising future starter.

The club rejected a bid from Leipzig earlier this year, valuing the player at over £10 million. Carvalho is set to commence his tenure with RB Leipzig until June 2024, with no buy option being included.

The negotiations are in their final stages and the formal agreement is expected to be signed next week, with the overall arrangement having been definitively confirmed.

Given that Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool declined any permanent deal proposal, a loan arrangement emerged as the sole viable solution.

Carvalho’s limited playing time at Liverpool prompted him to seek a loan move to ensure regular minutes, and Leipzig’s offer aligns with his aspirations.

With his loan move to Leipzig nearing completion, Carvalho aims to leave behind a frustrating debut season at Liverpool and make a significant impact in the Bundesliga.

Liverpool, meanwhile, still sees a future for the talented young forward at Anfield.
