According to a report from 90Min, Liverpool have initiated talks with Real Madrid regarding the potential signing of Federico Valverde this summer.
Valverde was initially acquired by Real Madrid at a young age for a modest fee of approximately €5 million (£4.2 million), making him a bargain for the Spanish giants.
Since his league debut at the age of 20, Valverde has become an integral part of Real Madrid’s first team, delivering impressive performances with seven goals and four assists in the 2022/23 season.
He has also made a significant impact on the Uruguay national team, accumulating 49 caps and scoring five goals.
Liverpool faces competition for Valverde
Liverpool’s interest in Valverde comes as no surprise given his exceptional form, but they face competition from Chelsea, who are also keen on securing his services.
However, Real Madrid are reluctant to sell Valverde and has informed interested clubs that he is not available for transfer.
The Spanish club holds Valverde in high regard, with coach Carlo Ancelotti describing him as “untouchable.”
Liverpool’s attempts to pursue a deal with Real Madrid have been rejected, indicating the challenge they face in acquiring the midfielder.
Liverpool’s transfer window so far
While Liverpool have been active in the transfer market, securing signings such as Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, reports suggest they are still considering further additions.
However, other clubs like Chelsea, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, and Paris Saint-Germain have also expressed interest in Valverde.
Valverde unlikely to leave
Despite the competition, Real Madrid have dismissed all inquiries for the player, and Valverde himself sees his future as a captain at the Bernabeu.
Those who have worked with him in Spain have already praised him. Carlo Ancelotti has declared that Valverde is “untouchable” in the midst of all of the current interest in his services.
As a result, the likelihood of Liverpool or any other suitor successfully signing Valverde this summer appears slim.
Valverde’s importance to Real Madrid is evident, having made 56 appearances across all competitions last season.
Although there has been speculation about his future due to the arrivals of Jude Bellingham and Arda Guler, it seems unlikely that Valverde will leave the club.
Liverpool’s pursuit of Valverde, recognized as one of the best midfielders in the game, is commendable, but their chances of securing his signature were always limited.
Valverde’s current position at Real Madrid, one of the world’s biggest clubs, and his continued importance to the team make it improbable that he would consider a move elsewhere unless circumstances drastically change.
