Sports journalist Ben Jacobs has stated that Liverpool reports linking to Manuel Ugarte are “incorrect”. The expert said that there is nothing concrete linking the two parties.
Manuel Ugarte to The Reds: Possible?
The Reds are going to rebuild their midfield this season after failing to qualify for UCL. Players like James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Naby Keita have already left the club. So the concern is to fill those empty spots with midfielders.
Although the Mac Allister deal is almost done and the Argentine is set to move to Liverpool, there are still plenty of gap holes to be filled.
Meanwhile, there is no concrete proof of Manuel Ugarte being linked with the Merseyside club.
Jacobs declines Liverpool links with Ugarte
The CBS Sports journalist, Ben Jacobs has made this clear that there is nothing strong enough to ensure that the link reports are true. While speaking to FourFourTwo, the journalist said,
“Liverpool will in all likelihood look at a second midfielder as well…
…There are other areas though that they’ll hope to strengthen as well and one of those areas will be in defence. I think they’ll be in the market for a centre-back…
…There are players that we can rule out, though: links to Manuel Ugarte are incorrect, to my understanding. He’s not a player who is seriously on their radar or that they’re chasing on this point.
Youri Tielemans is available on a free transfer having announced that he is leaving Leicester and again, Liverpool are not actively pursuing him at this point in time but there’ll be plenty of Premier League clubs who see the value in that deal.”
The Uruguayan had a terrific last season. While playing as a defensive midfielder he has had 44 appearances. Defensively he has looked really good, putting in 4.2 tackles and making 1.8 interceptions per game.
Ugarte has a £60M release clause that is worth competing for the big clubs. Sporting Lisbon has also accepted the fact that the player is destined to get a big move.
The Uruguayan has been valued at €25M by Transfermarkt.
