RB Leipzig’s Dominik Szoboszlai is in trouble with his club after publicly admitting that he would love to play for Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp.
The recent controversy started when the player appeared in the latest interview with Hungarian outlet Index, earlier this week. In that, the 22-year-old has said publicly that he would love to work under the Liverpool boss. However, he did take up a few other names as well Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho.
“It would certainly be a special experience to work under Klopp. As it would be under [Pep] Guardiola or Jose Mourinho. I don’t know what they would be able to get out of me. Proportionately, however, relatively few footballers are given all this [opportunity]. Only the best. I believe I can reach that level, and it would be great to work with any of them one day.”
As per reports from journalist Christian Falk, Leipzig weren’t best pleased with the midfielder’s comments. With a cup final to play against Eintracht Frankfurt tonight, they reportedly summoned the player to explain himself.
“Dominik Szoboszlai’s intentions to leave Leipzig cause unrest at RB shortly before the cup final. The offensive-player had to report to sports director Max Eberl and coach Marco Rose, because he gave an interview. In the interview he said that he dreams of working under Jurgen Klopp or Pep Guardiola. He thinks these coaches would make him even better.
Background: The midfielder has a release clause of €70m [£60m] in his contract. Liverpool and Manchester City could pay that amount. With Christoph Baumgartner from Hoffenheim, Leipzig already has a replacement for Szoboszlai on the list.”

Szoboszlai makes himself available to Liverpool and Klopp
Liverpool are targeting many young dynamic midfielders as part of their summer rebuild. However, whether or not the Reds are targeting the Hungarian is another thing.
However, the fee of £60m might fall on the costlier side for Liverpool as they have reportedly completed the signing of Mac Allister for a rough fee of the same. Thus, making them look for cheaper options in the market.
The 22-year-old has openly told the press about his desire to play under Klopp which sounded like he would be a better player under them. Szoboszlai, thereby made himself available for a potential move away from Germany.
The Hungarian has had a good season with Leipzig since bursting onto the scene in 2021. The midfielder then moved to one of the sister clubs from Salzburg to Leipzig. He has had 6 goals and 8 assists in both seasons alike in Germany.
However, apart from his numbers, the playmaker is technically sound and might remind the Liverpool fans of Coutinho at Liverpool as he is quite a capable midfielder.
Szoboszlai himself would clearly jump at the chance of an Anfield move, and the presence of a release clause does make things easier. So, if Liverpool fails to land any of the players who seem to be at the top of their list this summer, they might as well turn to Szoboszlai.
