Where does Liverpool Star Luis Diaz stand among the most valuable football players in the world?

CIES Observatory released its list of the most valuable players in the world. CIES is a swiss-based research group focused on the statistical study of football. It releases player value ranking based on different stats like player age, years on the contract left, performance, etc. Let’s have a look at where Liverpool forward Luis Diaz fits in the ranks.

Luis Diaz has arguably been Liverpool’s best Winter buy since Van Dijk. And he is by far the best January acquisition of this transfer window.

Diaz has won over Liverpool fans through his performances. Liverpool’s quadruple hunt would’ve ended much earlier if it were not for Diaz.

He helped the team win 2 trophies. While they also reached the UCL final and nearly lost the EPL trophy by 1 point.

CIES Football Observatory Player Value Ranking

This week, the CIES Football Observatory published its list of the world’s most valuable players. The study considers a player’s total worth based on their reputation, the club for which they play, their age, and the length of their contract.

Kylian Mbappé, unsurprisingly, is at the top of the list. He’s the only player with a value of over 200 million. thanks to his new contract with Paris Saint-Germain.

Vinicius Jr. and Erling Haaland are the next two, both young players at wealthy teams. Moreover, Pedri and Jude Bellingham complete the top 5.

Luiz Diaz is the 8th most valuable player, according to the observatory. His value according to the list is 110 million and therefore he is the most valuable Liverpool player.

He sits behind Phil Foden(6th) and Frenkie De Jong(7th). Moreover, Diaz tops Ruben Dias(9th) and Ferran Torres who makes it to the top 10.

Moreover, there are two more Reds in the top 30. Trent Alexander-Arnold is in 25th place, and Diogo Jota is in 27th place. Alisson Becker is the next who sits at 50th. And he is the last of the relevant players.

Three players in the top 30 and four in the top 50 aren’t exactly a lot for Liverpool. As they have one of the strongest squads in the world. But it’s indicative of the team’s current status.

Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, Jordan Henderson, Thiago, Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mané, and Roberto Firmino are just a few of the players who are over 30. This, combined with the fact that Salah, Mané, and Firmino all have one year left on their contracts, diminishes their overall value.

Diaz, his immediate value to Liverpool, coupled with a long-term deal and the fact that he is only 25, puts him ahead of the competition. Our main criticisms are that Alexander-Arnold should be higher on the list and that Andy Robertson should be included somewhere in the mix.

Diaz, on the other hand, isn’t a surprise, and Liverpool may consider him to be their most valuable asset at the moment.

Although, It’s possible that Diaz’s worth will increase in the coming year. That could be the case, based on his quick start to life at Anfield.
