Juventus defender Matthijs De Ligt is considering his future at Turin and is open to moving to Liverpool in the summer.

De Ligt recently made comments intimating that he would consider his future with the Serie A club after another fourth-place finish.

As per Calcio Mercato, he said:

At the moment negotiations are underway and when the time comes I will decide whether to extend or if I want to look elsewhere. I always look at what is best for me in terms of the sporting project.

Two fourth placed finishes is not enough, even Juventus knows it. We will have to take steps in that direction.

De Ligt’s contract at Juve expires in 2024 and the Serie A giants are hoping to extend the deal and protect his value. Moreover, according to SalarySport, the Dutchman is said to be earning around £200,000 per week, an annual salary of around £10.2million (€12m).

According to Calciomercato, the Reds are one of four clubs that De Ligt would be happy to move from Juventus this summer. The other clubs are Real Madrid, Paris Saint Germain, and Manchester City.

Moreover, the same outlet report puts forward that the Dutchman prefers a switch to Liverpool this summer than their bitter rivals Manchester United.

The Italian giants are offering the former Ajax star a new contract but on lower terms. However, De Ligt will not renew at those terms and figures.

Furthermore, he could join the Anfield club as long as he receives the same salary he gets at his current Juventus contract.

Anfield Home verdict.

There would not be anyone who would deny De Ligt’s ability and potential. But it would not be logical for Liverpool to sign the Dutchman in the summer transfer window.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have got some world-class center backs at their disposal, with the likes of Virgil Van Dijk, Joel Matip, Ibrahima Konate, and Joe Gomez.

Bringing another world-class center back that too with a high transfer fee and salary just doesn’t fit the bill given Liverpool have other parts of the team to think about.
