Liverpool players’ performance in the World Cup
Van Dijk is the second Liverpool player to have advanced to the tournament’s knockout rounds thus far, with Ibrahima Konate‘s France advanced to the round of 16 with a win against Denmark on Saturday.
Cody Gakpo maintained his tournament record of scoring in every game despite recent links to the PSV attacker from a number of Premier League teams, including The Reds are prepared to speak with Gakpo’s representation, but they will have to pony up close to €50 million if they want to lure him away from Ruud van Nistelrooy’s team in the coming months.
Gakpo plays mostly on the left flank of the attack for PSV, although at the World Cup, Louis van Gaal utilized him in a front-two formation. Jurgen Klopp is sure to find such adaptability appealing, and his Dutch assistant Pep Lijnders is fully aware of Gakpo’s qualities.
There will undoubtedly be many more interested teams, and PSV’s asking price will only go higher since he is emerging as one of the breakout stars at the World Cup.
