Wolves have removed a condition from Matheus Nunes’ contract that has allowed Liverpool to force a summer transfer, temporarily putting a barrier to the hunt for the midfielder.
Wolverhampton Wanderers have allegedly removed a clause from the agreement of Matheus Nunes that would permit Liverpool to trigger a move for the midfielder in the summer.
Despite attention from the Reds and Manchester City, Nunes secured a £38 million transfer from Sporting Lisbon to Molineux last summer. Yet, so far in the Premier League, he has not performed to his full ability.
Liverpool to move on better targets than Matheus Nunes?
Nunes later transferred to the Premier League, and The Telegraph later stated that Liverpool and Wolves had reached an agreement about a clause that would require the Reds to make a £44 million offer to bring the midfielder to Anfield one year later, in the summer of 2023.
Nevertheless, with that option likely no longer in place and Wolves now anticipated to seek far more than £50 million for Nunes, Liverpool may decide to move on to other targets, including Jude Bellingham, Mason Mount, and Moises Caicedo, according to The Telegraph.
As the 2022–23 season draws to a close, attention is still on Jude Bellingham’s future. Similar to his former Dortmund teammates Erling Haaland and Jadon Sancho, Bellingham is expected to land a high-paying move this summer, and Liverpool are actively pursuing a deal.
Not living up to his full potential?
It is obvious why Jurgen Klopp may have been interested in Nunes given that Pep Guardiola previously referred to the Portuguese international as one of the top young midfielders in Europe when City faced Sporting in the Champions League.
Several teams are reportedly interested in Nunes this summer, but those that follow the Premier League are still waiting for him to provide the kind of performances he did while playing for the Portuguese club.
