There are no Liverpool players in the Brazil squad for the first time since 2021, with Ederson left “surprised” by the decision to omit Alisson.
The last time that there was no Liverpool player in the Brazil squad was during the covid travel restrictions.
Alisson has been Liverpool and Brazil’s number 1 for quite a while but has been omitted from the recent squad. This has come as a surprise to his own teammates as he has been in great form lately.
One of them is Brazil’s number 2 and Manchester City number 1, Ederson. Moreover, Pep’s current number 1 is expected to start for Brazil and thus took over the conference duties. He has said that he was ‘surprised’ that Alisson was not in the Brazil squad.
“The first moment I saw the list I was surprised, but it is the coach’s decision. They are choices. I thought he would be on the list, but he wasn’t, I don’t know why, [maybe] it’s a matter of opportunities for younger players.
But we have to work, do our best, every day there is a good new player who can take on that responsibility too.”
Brazil are without their number 1, Alisson
Brazil currently have Ramon Menezes as an interim manager after Tite stepped down as coach. It was after losing to Croatia in the World Cup quarter-finals, where they were knocked out in a penalty shootout.
The current interim coach would be taking charge of the National team in a friendly against Morocco. The squad consists of both experienced players and young ones.
Moreover, there has been rumours that the current Real Madrid manager could be the next Brazil coach. Ederson also answered about his chances of becoming Brazil’s number 1.
“I think it’s too early for that. Of course it’s always important to start a cycle, for me it’s no different and I hope to start in the best possible way.
But we know it’s a long cycle, many things can happen, you can experience many phases during this period. You have to work as hard as you can, maintain consistency in order to be here as many times as possible.”
However, Alisson has had a pretty inconsistent season due to Liverpool’s defensive woes. Furthermore, Alisson has prevented the most goals in the league this season with an average of 10.60 and has been one of the main Liverpool players.
