Should Liverpool break the bank to keep their star striker Mohamed Salah by offering a new contract or should they find a suitable buyer for the 29-year-old?

Mohamed Salah has left Liverpool baffled. The Reds are in a very tough position to make a decision on his future. Salah has a contract until 2023 and the club wants to extend it further, but the contract talks have stalled at the moment.

Reports suggest that the Egyptian is demanding a mammoth £380,000 a week, which would make him the club’s highest earner.

This situation has left the club in a cumbersome position as they are considering selling him, rather than keeping him.

Liverpool has clung to its pay structure under FSG in order to prevent it from spiralling out of hand and setting a precedent for future agreements.

But should the Reds make an exception for their world-class star, who still has many years ahead of him?

When will Liverpool give Salah a new Contract ?

The actual reason for the delay is still unclear. If the Reds were to give him a new contract, they would have done it a few months back. But given the financial situation, it makes the world of sense for the delay.

Giving him a new contract means breaking their wage structure and this surely would be challenging for the club. Another alternative for the club is to try to sell the forward at a decent price. If the club tries to trade Salah, they may have difficulty finding a buyer for the African striker.

The Egyptian has fought some interest from Spain, with Madrid and Barcelona linked. But given their economic situation right now, it’s almost impossible for them to sign the player. PSG too closely monitored his situation and tried to sign him this summer, but now that they’ve signed Messi, it’s practically ruled out at the moment.

Liverpool will indeed likely get distraught if Salah decides to leave in the near future. In 212 Premier League games, the 29-year-old has 134 goals and 50 assists. Nevertheless, they may need to address Salah’s contract problem as soon as possible.

Now that his contract is set to expire in 2023, this will put the club under pressure to cash in on him at the conclusion of the season, when his contract will enter its last 18 months.

The final conclusion can be that Liverpool is surely looking for a way to keep him at the club. A direct replacement is nearly impossible to find, therefore the club must find a way to balance out their wage bill and keep the player for a long haul.
