Liverpool fans have been fuming over the VAR decision to not send the Tottenham player, Oliver Skipp, off after a horrifying challenge on the returning Luis Diaz.
Referee Paul Tierney and his VAR team may have made a big mistake by not sending off Oliver Skipp in the recent Liverpool match.
Spurs mounted an incredible comeback at Anfield before going on to lose to a late winner. But it may not have been possible without referee Paul Tierney, feel the Liverpool fans.
It was one of the most thrilling games of the season played at Anfield this season and Liverpool took all the three points. However, it wasn’t easy as they were made to sweat in the closing stages of the game.
After being 3-0 up inside 15 minutes, it looked like a whitewash for Klopp’s side. Yet, the poor defending and a good Spurs comeback meant that they were level in the 93rd minute of the game.
It was then that Jota capitalized on Moura’s error and earned his side all 3 points. Now the Reds move to 5th place, dethroning the North London side from that spot.
VAR decision: Should Skipp have received a red card?
However, a game of such magnitude surely has a lot of talking points. In this game as well, there were several points for the critics to highlight and talk about.
Similarly, another incident that is being talked about is the VAR decision that did not go Liverpool’s way. It was when Oliver Skipp went in for a lunge and caught Luis Diaz’s leg high up in the shin but was spared and shown just a yellow. Besides, the Columbian had just returned from a long-term injury and also scored a goal.
Liverpool fans were furious as they felt that the Englishman should have been sent off by the officials. It was initially thought that the 4th official would consider sending off the Spurs’ player as we have seen such fouls typically receive a red instead of a yellow.
However, much to the Reds’ dismay, the decision was only a yellow card and Skipp stayed in the game. Moreover, the Reds’ faithful feel that if he was shown a red card, Spurs might have not mounted any sort of comeback.
After the game, Klopp certainly didn’t seem to be happy with the officiating.
“We have our history with Tierney, I really don’t know what he has against us. He has said there [are] no problems but that cannot be true.
How he looks at me, I don’t understand it. In England nobody has to clarify these situations, it’s really tricky and hard to understand.
However, the Reds did come out of the game with all three points. Liverpool are now 7 points off 4th place Man Utd. However, their recent form has been great with 4 wins in their last 5 in the PL. With Fulham next, the Reds are expected to take all three points yet again.
