Dutch defender Sepp Van den Berg had a blunt response when the media asked him about a potential Liverpool exit in the coming seasons.
The Reds are famously known for doing smart business in the transfer market. Even this summer, they completed the desired midfield rebuild by signing four midfielders under £150M.
And the Merseysiders are also brilliant with loaning out young players for improvement. This summer the club sent Fabio Carvalho, Sepp Van den Berg, Calvin Ramsey, Nathaniel Phillips, Rhys Williams, and several others out on loan.
The Dutch defender has left Anfield this summer on a season-long loan to German club FSV Mainz. And the latest scoop regarding him has initiated some conversations.
Liverpool defender Sepp Van den Berg is focused on the future for now
When the 21-year-old was asked about his future, Van den Berg had a very vague reply to that. He said to Voetbal Primeur,
“The Eredivisie is a wonderful competition. But, as I said earlier, I want to play in England or Germany.
It would be wonderful to play in the Netherlands again, or perhaps return to PEC Zwolle at the end of my career.
But I am not working on that at the moment (even though) I do follow the Dutch clubs, especially when they play in Europe.”
The young defender joined the Reds back in 2019 from PEC Zwolle. Since joining he has spent most of his time on loan at Preston North End and Schalke.
Former Dutch professional coach Huub Stevens regarded the youngster very highly. He stated,
“I am very curious how our Van den Berg performs. Van den Berg is certainly a player who could also be interesting for the Dutch national team.
But before that, he has to grow. He is a player who I have been watching for some time.He is an interesting player.”
Van den Berg is yet to make his debut in the Merseyside outfit. Klopp should think about giving this youngster next season after he returns from his loan spell in Germany.
An ardent football fan and a proud Red. I take immense pleasure in analyzing the intricacies of the game.
