Salah could break the Champions League record of Drogba today?

Mohamed Salah inching closer towards breaking the Champions League record set by Didier Drogba and Aguero.

Liverpool meets Rangers and Salah is looking to break the record of Drogba

Not for the first time, Salah will surpass Drogba’s record. He is now getting closer to breaking the Champions League records held by Aguero and Drogba.

With a victory tonight against Rangers, Liverpool, with Mohamed Salah aiming for yet another record, may move closer to securing a spot in the round of 16.

If the Reds win this match, they will only need a single point from their next game against Ajax to go to the knockout rounds.

Liverpool have played seven times against Scottish opponents in Europe, winning three, drawing two, and losing two.

Five of those encounters—at Hibernian in the Fairs Cup in 1970, at Aberdeen in the European Cup in 1974, and at Hearts in the Europa League in 2012–13—were decided by a solitary goal, including all three Reds victories.

A probable Champions League record?

Salah’s goal in this game would break a record. He would become the third English club player to score 36 goals in the Champions League competition, behind Didier Drogba (Chelsea) and Sergio Aguero (Man City).

Even though he has 36 overall goals for Liverpool, one of them came in a qualifier. Salah’s goals from the group stage forward rank joint-18th among all players in the history of the Champions League. Among African players, only Drogba (44) has scored more goals.

The Champions League Shenanigans

Rangers’ chances of making it to the last 16 of this competition will be ended if they lose this game. A win will move Liverpool one step closer to the knockout stages.

Rangers have lost 12 of their previous 19 Champions League group games, with registering only one victory.

They haven’t scored or earned any points from their group games yet. Only FC Copenhagen and Rangers are yet to score in the group stage as of matchday three.

Rangers have won seven of their nine home matches this season in both – the league and cup; their lone loss came last month against Napoli (0-3) in the group round.
