The Premier League fixture between Liverpool and Leeds United has been Postponed due to Covid-19. The famous boxing day celebrations in England are incomplete without football. So Premier League have fixtures during boxing day where all the 20 teams play on the same day.

The new outbreak of the Covid 19 is spreading across England forcing Premier League to postpone the games due to players getting affected by the virus. So far 15 matches have been postponed due to Covid 19. Now two more boxing day fixtures were added to that list as Liverpool vs Leeds and Wolves vs Watford are postponed.

The boxing day fixture between Liverpool and Leeds United has been postponed. The Reds have four players who have self Isolated due to Covid who missed the Newcastle, Tottenham, and the EFL Cup quarter-final games. This week’s break might give us the option to see them back on the pitch.

Due to Coronavirus cases rising among their staff, Leeds United and Watford have submitted a request to the Premier League to postpone their Boxing day fixture. Both the teams don’t have enough players to play and the situation is worst for Leeds as they have a long injury list along with Covid cases.

Following the request, the Premier League board met today morning and came to a conclusion and released this statement.

The two matches are Wolverhampton Wanderers v Watford and Liverpool v Leeds United, both due to be played on Sunday at 12:30 GMT. The Board today was able to make its decisions in advance of Boxing Day. To give clarity to clubs and their supporters. We apologise for the inconvenience and disruption caused to those fans’ festive plans.

Leeds United will not be able to fulfil their fixture this weekend due to the number of players with COVID-19, injuries and illness. The club’s training ground has also been closed after consultation with the UK Health Security Agency and the Premier League.

As things stand, the remaining seven Premier League matches due to take place on December 26 are still unaffected.

Liverpool will face Leicester City again on 28th December before they face Chelsea on 2nd January. These are two very Important games for the Reds. Liverpool will tighten their grip in the title race if they are able to secure wins in their upcoming next two fixtures.
