Liverpool fans were stunned by the fact that Paul Tierney would be the referee for the Chelsea tie in January. The Reds fans also took their frustration out on Twitter after finding out about the news i.e. Paul Tierney will be in charge of VAR for this match.

Paul Tierney was the one who also refereed Liverpool’s match against Tottenham that resulted in a dramatic 2-2 draw. Now the 40-year-old will be on VAR duty at Stamford Bridge on January 2nd. He also had the wrath of Jurgen Klopp on him.

It came about when Paul Tierney gave a straight red card to Andy Robertson for severely fouling Emerson Royal. Whereas, when Harry Kane had committed a terrible foul on Andy earlier, he got just a booking.

Liverpool fans anxious about Chelsea fixture

Liverpool fans anxious about Chelsea fixture

This is fair enough to understand why Klopp was raging and also Liverpool fans now are worried about Sunday’s fixture. However, Chelsea on the other hand are having a poor run of results lately. This will surely be a lit contest.

The Blues have managed to get just one win out of their last five games across all competitions. They are now third on the ladder and still in the hunt for the crown. Liverpool will look to unleash their best on their visit to Stamford Bridge that weekend.

Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola would rather want themselves involved in the race and avoid a third competitor. Therefore, The Reds will look to finish off Chelsea to extend the lead and heap more pressure on them. Liverpool’s previous encounter with Chelsea ended in a 1-1 draw at Anfield.

A win for Liverpool could see Chelsea off the race and this will allow Liverpool to focus on the leaders’ Manchester City. While a loss to Klopp by Thomas Tuchel would open the race wide apart to have the three-horse race go on.
