Premier League 2022/23 dates set with World Cup break

Premier League have confirmed the dates for the 2022-23 season, this includes the interception of the World Cup 2022, with players having just eight days to recover. While Fans have found this annoying and called this break ridiculous.

FIFA have organized this tournament to commence in the winters to avoid climate problems as the 2022 World Cup will take place in Qatar. The climate there is hot and humid throughout but is cooler during the months of November and December.

This has led to complaints from domestic leagues all over the globe. With the dates of the World Cup clashing, there are problems for domestic leagues to plan their schedule. Therefore, all the leagues will have a mid-season break in between.    

Most of the players will not find it as a break since they will be involved with their national sides. For Liverpool, the ambition for silverware remains a top priority. The Premier League and Champions League are what they will be looking for. On the other hand, the FA Cup and EFL Cup will allow another platform for Jurgen Klopp’s boys.

The English clubs and other big names from across Europe can now start planning for the next season. The 2022-23 season begins on August 6, 2022, and ends on May 28, 2023. This includes a six-week gap for the World Cup.   

With all the national teams having their eyes on the mega tournament, there will be a sudden shift of attention. The final round of Premier League games before the World Cup will take place on November 12th and 13th.

The World Cup will conclude with the Finals to be played on December 18th 2022. The Premier League then resumes on Boxing Day (i.e. 26th December). Therefore, players playing the Finals and the third-placed playoff will get only 6 days for their recovery.

This can be labelled as “ridiculous” as it will be a massive workload on players. Clubs will want to avoid injuries that could hamper their run during the season. This will demand more depth in the squads with clubs being worried about their players, concerning the injuries.
