Liverpool have an opportunity to create a new transfer target in the name of Xavi Simmons. The 18-year-old attacking midfielder from the Netherlands is a highly rated youth player. In 2010 he joined Barcelona youth set-up while Chelsea and Real Madrid wanted to sign him at an early age. But in 2019 the young prodigy signed for the French side Paris Saint-Germain.

On 10th February 2021, Xavi made his professional debut for Paris Saint-Germain. He has made only two senior appearances so far. His current contract with Paris Saint-Germain ends in the Summer’s of 2022, leaving him available for a free transfer.

Liverpool will have to battle with Barcelona, who are also in the race to sign this young midfielder this January. However, PSG are keen to keep the midfielder and offer him a new deal.

How could Xavi Simmons turn out to be a better option for Liverpool?

The Reds are looking to sign midfielders and forwards in this winter transfer window (January 2022).  A new prospect in Liverpool’s transfer target is an 18-year-old midfielder who has played for both Barcelona and PSG at youth setup.

Liverpool are in need of young midfielders as Jorden Henderson, James Milner, and Thiago Alcantara are all in their 30s. with Naby Keita and Harvey Elliot injured, Liverpool lacks an attacking midfielder who can deliver the full 90 mins.

Liverpool are known for bringing up youth players and developing them, especially under Jurgen Klopp guidance. For instance, Liverpool have turned some academy players into youth stars in the name of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Cutis Jones, and Harvey Elliot.

The reason why Xavi is yet to sign a new deal for a contract extension with PSG is due to the lack of playing time. While PSG’s current squad is full of star footballers not only on the pitch but also on the bench. Thus, it might be really tough for the Dutch midfielder to get some playing time even in the domestic competitions.

Meanwhile, Xavi is one of the highly-rated youth players and he is available for negotiations under free transfer. This should give FSG a boost as they are planning to freshen up the team.

Xavi is young and his performance in under 18 looks impressive. He scored 2 goals and 4 assists in 4 matches in the UEFA youth league

As of now, we have to wait and see whether FSG and Liverpool decide to spend on Xavi Simmons.
