Liverpool will look to keep their verb bring hopes of catching Man City at the top of the Premier League alive as they prepare to face Leicester City.

Liverpool are currently in the second position in the league standings. With a game in hand, the Reds are nine points adrift of Pep Guardiola’s side. And next up for the Reds is the game against Leicester City at Anfield on Thursday night.

By the time Liverpool plays Leicester City on Thursday, Man City will possibly extend their lead to twelve points. Therefore, every game from now on for Liverpool in the Premier League is like a final where they can’t afford to lose and also hope there is a drastic drop of form in the Manchester City camp.

Liverpool vs Leicester City: Preview

Liverpool vs Leicester City: Pre-match press conference

Former Liverpool boss Brendan Rogers will make a return trip to his former employer’s turf. After a disappointing exit from FA Cup last Sunday against Championship side Nottingham Forrest, the Irishman will be expecting a better show from his boys at Liverpool.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are currently a happy camp with a couple of squad members making their return after recovering from their respective injuries. And the arrival of Luis Diaz has lifted the morale of the Merseyside giants and their fans. The Colombian caught eyes on his debut last Sunday following the attacker’s big-money move from Porto.

Liverpool supporters got a glimpse of their team for the future in the comfortable win over Cardiff City last Sunday. Diogo Jota, and Takumi Minamino, were both on the scoresheet. While teenager Harvey Eliott marked his injury return after five months and also scored his first senior Liverpool goal.

The Merseyside giants will look to carry their good momentum when they face Leicester City. Moreover, Jurgen Klopp will be optimistic about the second half of the season as the whole team now looks fresh and in good form.

However, in the previous meeting between both sides, Leicester City shocked Liverpool. Brendan Roger’s side won the game at the King Power Stadium.

And the Foxes will be eyeing a league double over the Reds for the first time since Martin O’Neill was in charge of Leicester City in the 1998-99 season.

Also, Liverpool haven’t won against Leicester in the last two meetings in the Premier League. Previously they lost thrice in a row to Leicester in the topflight was back in November 1963.

Meanwhile, Liverpool at home are always a difficult side for any visiting team. The Reds are currently unbeaten in 14 Premier League games at home. And have registered five wins in a row which is their best home winning run since eight home wins back in July to December 2020.

Team News

Mohamed Salah has marked his return to Liverpool’s training ground and is in contention for the game. Meanwhile, Luis Diaz should be ready for his full debut for Liverpool after Klopp played down any concerns of an injury in the Cardiff win.

Meanwhile, Mane is yet to arrive after Senegal’s triumph against Egypt in the AFCON final and will be absent from the tie.

After testing positive for Covid-19 the duo of Joe Gomes and Alex Oxlade Chamberlain have completed their isolation period.

Meanwhile, Thiago Alcantara and Fabinho both should return to the starting eleven. While Harvey Elliot is expected to make an appearance off the bench.

Jurgen Klopp will also be delighted by the return of attacker Divock Origi to full training. The big Belgian is back after his long injury absence since December.

Liverpool possible starting lineup:

Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson; Henderson, Fabinho, Thiago; Diaz, Firmino, Jota

Liverpool vs Leicester City: What Anfield Home Predicts

Leicester City have underperformed so far this season and looks like a side that has lost their belief. Brendan Rogers’s side are defensively poor and are in the middle of an injury crisis.

Moreover, facing in-form and fresh-looking Liverpool side at Anfield is the last thing Rogers would want in the crisis period. The hosts have been the better team this season and should be marching to a resounding victory.

Liverpool looks very likely to prevail over Leicester City with a 3-1 win.
