Luis Diaz set to sign for Liverpool

What Journalists have to say about the deal:

According to Neil Jones, a journalist with Goal, Liverpool have already “pencilled” a medical with Luis Diaz. Liverpool have also sent a delegation to meet Luis Diaz at the airport in Argentina. While this is a race against time, Liverpool are confident of securing the deal.

According to David Maddock of the Mirror, Tottenham thought they had an agreement with Diaz. However, Luis Diaz was waiting for an offer from Liverpool. It’s believed that he wanted an offer from a club at a “higher” level and insisted to join Liverpool.

According to Paul Joyce of the Times, Liverpool’s assistant director Julian Ward is said to have played a big role in the move. He led the negotiations alongside sporting director Micheal Edwards. This move has been said to be a big coup for Ward, who will take over the departing Edwards this summer.

The stats that make Liverpool’s new star Luis Diaz:

Diaz is being seen as a perfect fit for Liverpool’s front three. The forward is a pacy dribbler, who can score almost at will. This is well illustrated by his stats.

The 25-year-old has scored 14 goals and assisted a further 4 this season in only 1491 minutes. His 0.63 tackles in the attacking third per 90 and 31.6% successful pressure percentage show how good he is at putting pressure. This makes Luis Diaz a perfect fit for Liverpool’s Geggenpressing.

Diaz also completes 2.91 dribbles per 90. This is more than elite players like Mohamed Salah(1.82), Angel Di Maria(2.23) and Riyad Mahrez(1.75).

He averages 7.47 ball recoveries per 90, while also beating 3.29 players per 90 on average. (All stats taken from Fbref)
