Burnley vs Liverpool: Pre-match press conference

Liverpool closed the gap to Man City to nine points in the league standings by beating Leicester on Thursday night. But Guardiola’s men are in action first this weekend and could extend the lead once more.

On Paper, the fixture seems like an easy one for Liverpool. But it could prove to be a tricky one as Burnley fighting for every single point in the bid for survival.

The home side kept Ralf Rangnick’s Manchester United outfit at bay this week and will need to work much harder to achieve a similar result on Sunday.

Liverpool should be wary about Clarets new boy Wout Weghorst. The 6’6″ frontman terrorized Manchester United defense in the last game. Weghorst produced an all-action display and most importantly assisted Jay Rodriguez to make it all square.

Klopp’s men are the highest scoring side in the league, as league topscorer Salah has bagged 16 Premier League goals so far. Meanwhile, Diogo Jota is in flames and has been scoring a lot lately and sits second in the race to Golden boot.

Also, Liverpool’s new boy Luis Diaz caught the eye on his full debut for the club. Klopp has currently got all the recipes to go all guns blazing against Sean Dyche’s men.

Previously in the first half of the season, Liverpool eased to a 2-0 victory at Anfield over Dyche’s side back in August. Moreover, in the 2020-21 season, the Reds had a 3-0 success at Turf Moor.

Burnley have registered just two victories of their 15 Premier League games versus the rampant Reds (D2, L11). Previously winning 2-0 at Turf Moor in August 2016 and 1-0 at Anfield last season.

Meanwhile, Jurgen Klopp’s side have recorded wins in the last five Premier League games against the side bottom of the table by an aggregate score of 12-0.

Also, in Sunday kick-offs at Turf Moor Burnley have a poor recent record and have won such a game over two years ago.

Now, Jurgen Klopp is spoilt for choice in attacking areas following the returns of Sadio Mane and Mo Salah from the Africa Cup of Nations, with new signing Luis Diaz also impressed in his two outings so far.

Diogo Jota scored twice against the Foxes midweek and should keep his place in the starting eleven.

Jordan Henderson is fit to return in midfield after missing the Leicester game with a minor back problem.

But It would not be surprising to see if Klopp makes a couple of alterations ahead of the clash with Inter.

Liverpool possible starting lineup:

Liverpool seems to have found their feet again since the turn of the year. Also, Jurgen Klopp’s men are also boosted from the return of Salah and Mane.

Also, Diaz’s sparkling debut and Jota’s red-hot streak make traveling side favorites for another routine success at Turf Moor. It looks difficult to see Burnley containing Liverpool’s muscle power.
