Liverpool are linked to a new Brazilian talent, Florentino Luis from Benfica who is tipped to be the ‘next big thing’ and could be a great addition to the Reds’ midfield.
There’s a whisper of a new talent circling around the halls of Anfield – a potential addition to Liverpool’s midfield ensemble. That whisper carries the name of Benfica’s Florentino Luis.
The 23-year-old defensive midfielder is tipped to be the successor for the departing Fabinho. The Brazilian footballer’s form may have dipped in the last 12 months, which saw him take a bit of criticism.
However, there has always been hope he would be able to rediscover the form which made him one of the best players in his position for years.
But now that the Brazilian is expected to leave the club this summer, the Reds’ faithful could expect Luis to be his replacement.
Florentino Luis could be the new Liverpool number 6
The 23-year-old Benfica man has been called the ‘next big thing’ by journalist Neil Jones. While talking on a podcast, he said that the Liverpool faithful could expect his name being thrown around as a part of their new recruit.
Moreover, along with the midfielder, the Reds are also interested in their defender Antonio Silva.
“He’s the spitting image of Fabinho in terms of his role. A defensive midfielder who’s not afraid to cover ground, puts in a strong foot, and displays fantastic defensive prowess.”
Jones said on Podcast
But the biggest dilemma is the price tag. The Portuguese giants are expecting a fee of £90m-£100m. Moreover, the Brazilian is also chased by Manchester City and PSG.
In spite of his tender age, Luis has an impressive CV. With 12 Champions League outings, 4 Europa League appearances, and 86 caps for Benfica to his name. Not to mention a loan stint at Monaco, his experience is striking.
A proven talent at a young age
In the Portuguese top flight, Florentino averages 7.44 possession-adjusted interceptions per 90, which ranks him among the top 10 midfielders.
Florentino has ranked in second place averaging 11.4. But even Ugarte cannot compete with Florentino when it comes to winning the duel success rate.
No midfielder who averaged at least six possession-adjusted interceptions had a better defensive duel success rate than the Benfica midfielder at 65.18%.
With a 91.38 percent completion rate which ranks him as the best midfielder for those who averaged at least 60 passes per 90 last season in the Portuguese league.
At 23 years old, he is clearly a talented player, and based on the stats at least seems like he would be a good fit for Liverpool.
