Manchester United 0-5 Liverpool: The scoreline will echo for ages

Manchester United 0-5 Liverpool: The scoreline will echo for ages

Liverpool visited Old Trafford to play one of the most anticipated games in the history of English Football. Both Liverpool and Manchester United previously tasted a win in their respective midweek’s Champions League clashes. But it is the visitors who were favourites going into the game.

Liverpool made a couple of changes with Diego Jota and Ibrahima Konate back into the side.

The Reds started brilliantly Keita opened up the score with a cool & calm finish. Soon after the goal, Jota scored the second after Trent’s inch-perfect cross.

With two goals scored Liverpool was in complete control of the game. And then came Mohamed Salah, who is in blistering form dismantled Manchester United.

With everyone expecting him to score his 10th consecutive goal, The Egyptian went on to score a hat-trick in Old Trafford.

With Liverpool continuously pressing United players, but it was Naby Keita who caught everyone’s eyes. Keita was still in Atletico Madrid hangover and had a fantastic game.

Finally, Keita is starting to live up to his price tag. But soon after halftime, he was carried on a stretcher after a very bad challenge by Pogba, who eventually was sent off for the challenge.

Liverpool absolutely ran riot and were excellent in their attacking department.

Meanwhile, Manchester United witnessed a Dark Day and were shambolic on the pitch. Even Sir Alex Ferguson would accept Liverpool are now a far better side than Manchester United.

It was completely shocking to see, how United players performed on the big occasion. The counter-attacking playing team had no idea how to press.

And neither the team’s attacking players tracked back the runs of the Reds.

The people around the globe witnessed how far Liverpool have come under Jurgen Klopp, who has built a great team and has played a huge role in bringing back the glory days for Liverpool.

It was a game between a Clueless Manchester United vs Relentless Liverpool. Or else we can sum it up as a game between Title Pretenders vs Title Contenders.

Key numbers from the game

Manchester United’s last big margin loss in this fixture was in October 1895, they were beaten 7-1 by Liverpool at Anfield.

United’s latest loss of 5-0 is the heaviest defeat they have suffered in this fixture playing at home.

Liverpool are the second English Top-flight team after Manchester United’s team in February/March 1965 to win consecutive away games with five goals margin and without conceding.

For the first time, since February 1955 Manchester United have conceded five goals and failed to score a single goal at home.

Mohamed Salah is the first Liverpool player to score in the 10 consecutive matches.

Salah also surpassed Didier Drogba to become the highest goal-scoring African in Premier League history.

Salah’s hattrick is the first in 18 years, Old Trafford crowd has seen an opposition player scoring a hattrick. In 2003 it was Ronaldo Nazario who did it for Real Madrid.

Manchester United 0 – 5 Liverpool : Post match reactions

Klopp’s reaction to whether the result represents one of the greatest days of his career

Greatest days? I didn’t think about it, yet. It’s a good day, a really good day and I don’t want to be disrespectful. I have no idea, but it’s a big one. We know that. Obviously after the game I got told that never happened in the long history of LFC; this group always wanted to write their own little chapters for the big, big history book of this club.

When asked about Naby Keita

Naby is in a great moment.  It was clear we would start him again because he is in really good shape and yeah, he proved us right.

Spoke about Firmino and hattrick hero Mo Salah

He played, again, outstandingly well. You are right, Mo gets a lot of attention and rightly so, but Bobby, for people with football knowledge – I’m pretty sure when he finishes playing people will write books about the way he interpreted the false-nine position.

What’s next for Liverpool

Liverpool will travel to Deepdale in the mid-week for the Carabao Cup fixture against Preston North End F.C. The Reds will be eyeing up a spot in the last eight of the competition.
