Liverpool finished their pre-season program with an entertaining 3-1 victory against German side SV Darmstadt in a friendly at Deepdale.
The Kopites, on Monday, filled Deepdale, the home of Preston North End FC, as the Anfield giants faced SV Darmstadt. And the game felt like a home game for Liverpool.
However, this did not stop the few hundred Darmstadt fans from making their way to the game. And clearly, they did not think of the game as friendly as they were seen heckling Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson when they went to take corners.
Liverpool thrashed SV Darmstadt in a pre-season friendly
The Reds witnessed a comfortable win in their last pre-season friendly as Mohamed Salah and Diogo Jota scored within the first 10 minutes of the game.
A second-half goal by Luis Diaz increased the Merseysiders’ goal tally to 3. This result will give the team a much-needed boost to start their PL campaign against Chelsea this coming Sunday.
However, there were still a few things that were just beyond the game.
Jorg Schmadtke, a man on a mission
The Sporting Director of Liverpool was present at the game as he observed from the directors’ box. But he is a busy man with a lot of work to do in this transfer window.
According to a report via Liverpool Echo, he left the stadium shortly after the half-time whistle. Considering the Reds badly need a defensive midfielder, he has a major responsibility.
Heartwarming moments
Many young supporters attended this game and as the referee blew the final whistle, they invaded the pitch.
Young midfield duo Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott were fuming as a steward stopped a fan with a solid rugby tackle. The duo made sure the youngster was okay and safely brought out of the pitch.
Kostas Tsimikas threw his match shirt to a young supporter as he spotted a placard saying, “Tsimikas, I love you more than my dad. Can I have your shirt”.
Allison also gave his shirt to a young girl and hugged her. He left the pitch exchanging a few high-fives with a few fans nearby.
Thus, the Reds look fully confident going into their first game of the new season. All they need is a defensive-midfield signing before jumping into the kick-off at Stamford Bridge.
The coming days are going to be interesting, a transfer is on the cards this week, as per Anfield Home.
An ardent football fan and a proud Red. I take immense pleasure in analyzing the intricacies of the game.
