After a shock move of £60m for Szoboszlai, Liverpool would still be spending around £75m to sign the midfield duo of Romio Lavia and Khephren Thuram.
Liverpool announced their second transfer of the summer window on Sunday, as Dominik Szoboszlai completed his move from RB Leipzig.
The Hungary international, 22, has signed a five-year deal with Liverpool after they activated his £60 million release clause.
He joins Alexis Mac Allister at Anfield following the World Cup winner’s £55m switch from Premier League rivals Brighton in June.
After a disappointing season, the Reds are making sure there is no repeat of it the next season. After confirming their berth in Europa League, Liverpool are expected to compete till the very last in every competition.
However, this has not affected the signings as the new signings are world-class talents acquired from other teams.
They are still in the market and two names are echoing around as Liverpool targets.
Thuram and Lavia: The next signings for Liverpool?
Khephren Thuram and Romeo Lavia are the ones Liverpool are keeping tabs on. The Reds are expected to make a bid for them soon.
As per The Express, Liverpool will step up their interest in the 22-year-old Thuram. The Nice midfielder has been on Klopp’s transfer list for a while now. The Reds are waiting for the U21 Euros to get over to make a move.
Thuram had a great season and was named in Ligue 1’s Team of the Year. The Frenchman is a defensive midfielder and could sit behind Mac Allister and Szoboszlai in Klopp’s new-look midfield.
With the other target being Southampton’s Romeo Lavia, Klopp has his young and dynamic midfielder. The Belgian was brilliant despite the Saints going down and has grabbed the attention of many top clubs.
Southampton have slapped a £50m price tag and Liverpool are set to make an opening bid for him. The Saints will not sell him on the cheap because they owe his former club Manchester City 20 percent of any future sale.
Southampton paid City an initial £10.5m when he arrived a year ago. Liverpool are unlikely to sign both Lavia and Thuram due to the other midfielders on their books.
Liverpool’s other first-team midfielders are Fabinho, Thiago Alcantara, Jordan Henderson, Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott, and Stegan Bajcetic. Thus, the middle of the park looks jampacked.
Although a few sources suggest two more additions in midfield in the name of Thuram and Lavia but it looks highly unlikely that the Reds will make a move for both.
