Sporting Lisbon defender Jerry St Juste has admitted that ‘top Premier League clubs are looking to sign him amid claims that Liverpool have made their interest known.

The Dutch defender is currently the fastest player (just behind Mbappe) in the FIFA video game. This might not be a thing to consider while looking at a potential transfer but Jerry is remarkably fast.

His outstanding acceleration was seen when Sporting knocked out Arsenal in the Europa League this season. The 26-year-old chased down Martinelli who was one on one with the goalkeeper for a potential goal. But Jerry put on his afterburners and chased the Brazilian down and made a clean tackle preventing him from scoring.

According to reports, Liverpool opened talks with Jerry’s camp after that 2-2 draw in Lisbon against Arsenal. Moreover, the Dutchman has a £40 million release clause in his contract.

These were all rumours until Jerry himself spoke about the speculation surrounding a potential move to the Premier League. While the identity of the club was not disclosed, it could be guessed that the Reds have had a word with Jerry over a potential move to Anfield.

Liverpool interested in Jerry St Juste?

While talking about the game against Arsenal, the defender said that interest from top clubs started coming in.

“After the game against Arsenal, interest came from the top of the Premier League.”

Moreover, the former Mainz man said that he struggled to get into the first XI of Sporting CP before Christmas.

“Because I didn’t play at the start of this season, I briefly thought about (moving on loan) to the Eredivisie last winter.

Two Dutch top clubs inquired about me. I briefly thought about that because I still have the feeling that you are more likely to play for the Oranje (the Dutch national team) in the Eredivisie.

In the meantime, I am very happy that I stayed here. Then, you also see how fast things can change.”

Meanwhile, even though Liverpool are looking for a midfield overhaul, they would be interested in defensive reinforcements too.

With a number of players set to leave, the defensive department would need backup as well. Besides Van Dijk and Konate, there seems to be a dearth in the defensive setup for next season.

Moreover, Matip and Gomez are rumoured to be leaving the club while the young Williams is also on the exit radar.

What could the defender bring to Liverpool?

While talking to UEFA, Jerry spoke of what the team could expect from him, if they sign him.

“My focus, aggressiveness, my reading of the game, being a leader, being technically skilled. I like to go out and play even playing as a centre-half, it’s all part of my game.”

These traits seem to be remarkable for a defender and if he could adapt to his life in England, he could be a key player for Liverpool.
