Liverpool tipped for Darwin Nunez, due to ‘current contract’ circumstances

Liverpool eyeing Benfica striker Darwin Nunez as a perfect replacement for their current batch of forwards if there is no contract extension.

Darwin Nunez is a star in Benfica’s attack and beginning to catch the eye of many top clubs. Liverpool are no exception as LFC management and its owners FSG group eyeing the Uruguayan star.

The 22-year-old has already scored 31 goals from 36 appearances this season for Benfica.

Liverpool hierarchy are likely to make a move for the Uruguayan forward but only under certain circumstances.

If the move happens, Nunez would be in direct competition with Liverpool’s Portuguese star Diogo Jota.

Manager Jurgen Klopp knows how “dangerous” the player is in front of the goal. The German would have noted his latest performance against Liverpool in the Champions League tie.

Moreover, Nunez’s scintillating form this season led to several Big Premier League clubs on alert. Reportedly, Manchester United, Arsenal, and Chelsea are the ones who look to get him.

The “Certain Circumstances”, stated by FSG

FSG would consider making a move for the 22-year-old player. But it remains to be seen whether their star Forwards Sadio Mane and Mo Salah look to leave the club.

With the Liverpool future of other ‘attackers’ Takumi Minamino and Divock Origi also hanging by a thread it seems certain, the club would look for forwards.

Meanwhile, the Reds star forwards Mo Salah and Sadio Mane both have only 14 months left in their Contract.

Moreover, Mo Salah has reportedly received an offer from PSG that would see him earn £800,000 per week.

The release clause of the Striker

Benfica have currently set a release clause worth £125m. But according to renowned journalist Jacque Talbot, the price could come down to around £66m.

Talbot went on to say,

My understanding is that super-agent Jorge Mendes will offer the player to the top brass of English football. And despite the £125m release clause Benfica have put to his name, I understand it will take just over half that, about £66m, to seal the deal – maybe even less.

If Liverpool ‘scoop this move’ then,

Make no mistake, this will be a player to challenge Diogo Jota in the number nine role. It’s no secret Klopp has adapted from the ultra-high press he had utilised before, meaning another Roberto Firmino – someone like Hugo Ekitike – won’t be looked at.

Whatever happens at the end of the season and right before the start of next season is going to be interesting. Lots of ‘questions and calculations’ will take place regarding the ‘team and its combinations’.
