Liverpool FC will be facing fierce rivals Manchester United amid a lot of team talks & news regarding injuries and a suspension.

Liverpool is under a lot of pressure to defeat fierce rival Manchester United at Old Trafford on Monday. The pressure comes after drawing both of their first two games against Fulham and Crystal Palace.

It has not been the best start for Jurgen Klopp’s team as reigning Premier League champions Manchester City have already opened up a four-point advantage on the Reds. And they have fallen short of the crown by one point to the Citizens in two of the last four seasons.

They can at least take solace in the fact that Merseyside rivals Everton and their next opponents Man United have both lost their opening two matches. However, a victory for the Red Devils on Monday would move them above Liverpool in the standings.

Liverpool vs Manchester United: Team news, update about Injuries and Suspensions

Injury List

Joel Matip

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Groin
Possible return date: August 27 (vs. Bournemouth)

Joel Matip had a groin injury against Fulham on the first day of the season. He was unable to play in Monday’s 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace and was later ruled out of the match against Man Utd. He has since begun light training, though, and might be chosen for the match against Bournemouth at Anfield the following weekend.

Caoimhin Kelleher

Type of injury: Groin
Possible return date: August 31 (vs. Newcastle)

Caiomhin Kelleher, who saved two crucial penalties to help Liverpool defeat Chelsea in the 2017 EFL Cup final, is still out with a groyne injury.

At the beginning of August, Klopp anticipated that the problem would likely sideline the team’s backup goalkeeper for “two to three weeks,” with the trip to Newcastle at the end of the month as a potential return date.

Diogo Jota

Status: Out
Type of injury: Hamstring
Possible return date: September 3 (vs. Everton)

After initially injuring his hamstring on Liverpool’s preseason tour, Diogo Jota re-aggravated it. According to Klopp, the Portugal forward is “coming closer” to recovering. He won’t be available this weekend, though.

Curtis Jones

Status: Out
Type of injury: Calf
Possible return date: September 3

Curtis Jones completes Liverpool’s midfield injury list as he nurses a calf complaint. And the Englishman will spend at least another couple of weeks in the treatment room.

Ibrahima Konate

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Due to a knee injury, he got in a preseason match against Strasbourg, Ibrahima Konate was unable to play against Fulham. And Klopp knows that the Frenchman will be out for “a while.”

Thiago Alcantara

Status: Out
Type of injury: Hamstring
Possible return date: September 18 (vs. Chelsea)

Due to the unfortunate Thiago Alcantara’s major hamstring injury sustained in the weekend’s tie with Fulham, the Spaniard may now be out for up to six weeks.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Status: Out
Type of injury: Hamstring
Possible return date: Unknown

The Anfield squad also lacks Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain due to a hamstring injury. And the former Arsenal player will be out for at least a few more weeks.

Suspension List

Darwin Nunez

Status: Suspended
Return date: September 3 (vs. Everton)

On Monday, Darwin Nunez made his home debut for the team against Crystal Palace. During Nunez’s 57 minutes on the field, the Uruguayan attacker head-butted the opposing defender Joachim Andersen after a physical altercation between the two. Nunez will immediately begin serving a three-match suspension, preventing him from being chosen until the Merseyside Derby.
