Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has acknowledged that he would leave the club if they continued to struggle. However, there is still no clear long-term replacement for the German.
Jurgen Klopp is a bona fide Liverpool legend and has proactively solidified his place in Anfield fables. However, even the famous German has not been safe to speculate about what comes next once his tenure is finished.
Merseyside legend Steven Gerrard was widely considered to be Klopp’s successor when the time came for him to step down.
But, Gerrard’s disastrous time at Aston Villa appears to have put paid to his plans to manage the club at least for the time being.
Liverpool may look towards former Anfield midfielder to replace Jurgen Klopp in the future
Xabi Alonso, Gerrard’s former teammate at Anfield, has begun to gain a reputation as one of the most exciting managerial prospects in Europe. The praise came following his impressive work with Bayer Leverkusen in Germany.
Leverkusen have qualified for the Europa League semi-finals this week thanks to Alonso’s incredible performance since his appointment in October.
Whilst playing an attractive, attacking brand of football Leverkusen have collected 39 points over the past 20 league games.
If Alonso’s career continues like this, there is little doubt that he will prominently be in the running to replace Klopp when he departs.
But already different clubs are very much in the know about Alonso and his thriving standing.
The Sun reports that West Ham are huge admirers of the Leverkusen boss and consider him as a top candidate if they fire David Moyes at the end of the season.
Even though Liverpool going through a difficult season this year, Klopp is still very popular at Anfield. However, he himself suggested that he would quit his role if campaigns like this became a regular occurrence.
When asked earlier this month if he’d ever experienced a season like this before, Klopp retorted:
“No, thank God. I wouldn’t be manager of Liverpool if I had a couple of these seasons. We have to get through it. That’s how life is. You have to fight to change your fortunes.”
