Liverpool are expecting to gain momentum as Darwin Nunez and Dominik Szoboszlai return to first-team training but Mohamed Salah injury is concerning.
Prior to the PL clash against Nottingham Forest at City Ground, the Mersryside boss Jurgen Klopp has shared major insights into player injuries and squad situation.
Nunez and Szoboszlai Expected to Return
The Reds managed to secure a comfortable victory against Southampton in FA Cup 5th round match.
With the help of young boys, Klopp and Co. managed a 3-0 scoreline where debutant Lewis Koumas and Jayden Danns scored.
The match saw several key senior players miss the matchday squad due to injuries. This list included players like Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo and others.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference before the Forest game, Klopp stated,
“Darwin and Dom trained yesterday (Thursday) with the team, they looked good. We have to wait [and see] how they react.
Wataru and Robbo didn’t [train], but the plan is they join in today (Friday). It’s the idea, but we have to see if it works out.”
The Uruguayan and the Hungarian are expected to be present in the squad, but them starting the match is still under major suspicion.
However, their return after three games and six games respectively will be a substantial boost for LFC.
Salah Still Doubtful for Liverpool Due to Injury
The Egyptian attacker picked up a hamstring injury while serving his country in AFCON. Since then the injury has resurfaced many a times, the most recent one being in the game against Brentford.
Salah has missed three matches since then and will also miss the weekender clash. Klopp reassured about his unavailability by saying,
“I don’t think Mo’s too far off, but he will not reach tomorrow, and from there we have to go. Like with the other two, touch and go and that stays with Mo, unfortunately, a bit longer.
I think next week, at any point, it’s possible [he returns]. He’s on the way back definitely, but not there yet.”
Klopp has not been able to decide how the lineup would look like against Nottingham Forest as he said, ‘I couldn’t give you the answer’ and ‘we have to stay flexible.’
An ardent football fan and a proud Red. I take immense pleasure in analyzing the intricacies of the game.
